What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that helps to straighten teeth without the use of typical metal braces. The process involves wearing a series of custom-made clear plastic aligners that help shift your teeth into the proper position over time.
Why should I use Invisalign?
Its top asset is that Invisalign is nearly undetectable. People don’t have to know that you are going through orthodontic treatment. And you can remove them for social events! The aligner “trays” are mandatorily removed for eating. Before repositioning them, your teeth must be flossed and brushed. As people’s oral hygiene improves, their weight tends to drop because they snack less. The Invisalign trays are comfortable, too. No wires or brackets against the inside of your mouth.
What is involved?
After final impressions of the teeth have been made, the process itself involves wearing a set of Invisalign trays for two weeks at a time. Each tray is manufactured so that the teeth are slightly straighter than the previous tray. The teeth will typically move 1/10mm per tray. So when you put a new tray in, the teeth in the tray are slightly straighter than your teeth normally are. This puts pressure on your teeth, and over the course of two weeks your teeth will move so that they match the tray.
Compliance will stare you right in the face, when you elect to go Invisalign, though. If you can honestly say to yourself that you will be the type of person that will wear the aligners no matter what, then they’re for you. Since they are removable, a person’s true commitment to their goal will be tested. And to work, they have to be worn.
Is cost a factor?
The average Invisalign price is not significantly higher than regular braces. The unique advantages Invisalign offers, like being able to take the aligners out to eat and brush your teeth, often outweigh the difference in price.
